AN INTERNATIONAL BILINGUAL MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Lafayette International Middle School welcomes your young adolescents from the 6th to the 3rd grade in small classroom sizes. The Lafayette International Middle School is the next step after your child has graduated from one of the International Elementary Schools in Nice or Cagnes sur Mer (the Pain de Sucre and the Pain d'Epice).

The INTERNATIONAL MIDDLE SCHOOL is dedicated to achieving academic excellence via their multi-cultural program and preparing students to become respectful and responsible members of society via cross-cultural understanding.

TEACHER PROFILE AND ROLES
All of the teachers are certified, highly motivated, and from different cultural backgrounds.
Teachers are required to have a positive attitude inside and outside of class and remain motivated.
Teachers need to learn to get to know their students.
They understand the different language and comprehension levels and adapt their teaching methods to each learner's style and level.
Teachers create an environment that stimulates the creativity and development of their students in all fields, both academic and non-academic.
Teachers nourish an international setting by promoting the fundamental values of the Middle School and allow students to further their learning.

BILINGUAL TEACHING
All of our teachers are certified and conduct classes in their native language. Needs-based learning, attentive teaching methods, and individualized learner assessment allow each student, francophone or non-francophone, to receive the education that will best prepare him or her for a united Europe and today's global community.
French or English beginners
Depending on the student's level, language gateway classes will be organized during the first trimester so that the student can eventually transition into his or her class. If need be and by teacher request, subject to the family's approval, classes will be held on Wednesday mornings.

FRENCH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE and INTENSIVE ENGLISH LESSONS
They will be scheduled on Wednesday mornings by request.


ASSESSMENT

Tests and quizes are administered to continuously evaluate each student.
Students will receive their report cards the day before school vacations.
A correspondance notebook allows teachers, parents, and administrators to communicate.


SCHOOL LIFE

The school year runs from mid-September 2006 to the end of June 2007.

BUILDING HOURS:
Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Friday: from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
The main office is closed Wednesday afternoon and during vacations.

School hours:
Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Friday from 8:15 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, except for sport-study (contact us).

Study hall:
From 5:00 to 6:00 PM, students can complete their homework under their teachers' supervision.

School cafeteria:
Menus are posted weekly and can be viewed on our website. Our chef prepares a variety of healthy foods. Arrangements for dietary restrictions can be made (please provide a medical prescription or other justification).

School Bus:
Several stops throughout the city beginnning in October.
A bus service is also available for Cagnes sur Mer and St Laurent du Var if student demand is sufficient.


ADMISSIONS
STUDENT PROFILE
The Middle School accepts students of all nationalities.
The student must have the appropriate level to take advantage of the international education offered by Lafayette Middle School.
He or she needs to work seriously and play an essential role in his or her learning.
He or she will be respectful of his or her classmates, teachers, and the rest of the school's staff.
He or she will be honest, fair, and loyal.
He or she will have a positive attitude and play an active role in the school and school activities.


PARENTS
Under all circumstances, within the establishment teachers are solely responsible for the pedagogy, discipline, and safety of the students.
Parents must understand, support, and respect at all times the International Middle School's educational mission.
They must instruct their children to maintain a positive attitude and be respectful of their teachers and the staff.
They must be frank and open with the Middle School about everything that concerns their children: their sociability, physical and emotional behavior, and learning.
They must ensure that their children regularly attend school, that they arrive on-time, and that their homework is done.
They must assist the Middle School in its effort to provide a bilingual education and offer help in their native language.

If parents are confronted with a problem:
They must first try to resolve it and only then contact the appropriate teacher.
If the problem persists, they must contact the Administration.


REGISTRATION
For all registration requests, an academic history file is required and the Director of Studies will notify parents of her decision.
The Director of Studies, Mrs. Pascale Rosfelder-Alhadeff as well as the Principal, Mr. Laurent Paulin, are available for any further requests or additional information.
Office hours: by appointment only.
Parent-Teacher conferences are organized at the beginning of the school year.
Parents and students will be notified when school fees are due. Payment due dates must be respected.
